Finding an Internet Website Business that Works for You!
Posted in Business World June 16th, 2008

Here’s what I know about you! For the past few minutes you have been sitting at your computer, searching for ways to increase your income. You’ve been reading advertisements about affiliate marketing; some were obvious “get rich quick” schemes and others appeared to be legitimate offers by webmasters to develop new websites. The ads and opportunities seem to be everywhereevery search you do for “website marketing,” or internet business opportunities” just causes another mind-numbing list of thousands of offers, some sounding just a little too good to be true. Or, you have a great new product or service that you would like to sell, and you have no real idea regarding how to start a website business and get the word out to potential customers!

This isn’t the first time you’ve been on the web doing Google searches either. You know that people just like you are discovering ways to make a little extra money running internet-based businesses– and if they could figure it out, you certainly can do the same. But where do you start?

Like starting a traditional brick and mortar business, you have two basic choices. You can come up with the next new revolutionary product, service or idea (Dell computers, Google search engines, Starbucks coffee) and design a new website from the ground up to advertise your product or services. Or, you can choose to buy an existing website business that someone else has already put time and money into developing.

If you’ve decided that it might be easier to buy an existing business, you’ve Googled “website for sale” or other similar search phrases. You received dozens of hits from people advertising their individual website business for sale, just like you would see if you checked your local weekend newspaper under the category “Businesses for sale.” You’ve also seen ads for businesses that advertise themselves as “website brokers,” some of which offer to act as the middle man and assist you in finding and buying a website business.

Do your research and ask questions about website businesses that peak your interest. Check as many sites offering website for sale as you can find. Be wary of those who want to “broker” your purchase. Some questions that you need to answer:

Name of Website - Is it relevant to the products being offered for sale?

URL - Is the site currently active when you try to visit it?

Description of the website - Purpose, uses… interesting enough that others would visit?

Age of Website - If it has only been up for a few days, be wary.

Page Rank - Check any claims made

Number of Visitors - No visitors, no value

Revenue - Ask for verification

Expenses - Domain renewal, monthly hosting costs

Net Profit

What work is involved in running the website? Do you have the technical knowledge?

How many hours required to run the website?

Will the seller help with getting started?

How will the payment, domain transfer, hosting transfer be accomplished?

Why is the current owner selling the website?

You may not be able to cover all of these points, but the more information the better. If the seller can’t answer these basic questions, maybe you need to continue looking for that perfect web-based business!

The Three Phases of The South Beach Diet
Posted in World Of Medicine June 16th, 2008

The South Beach Diet continues to affect the lives of many dieters today. And in contrast to what most of the people often think of the diet, the South Beach diet, is neither a low-carb diet nor a low-fat diet. It is interesting to know that the South Beach diet has the main purpose of teaching people, particularly dieters, to rely on the right carbohydrates and the right fats. The purpose of the is to enable people to live quite happily without the bad carbohydrates and bad fats.

In the South Beach diet, important points are considered for making it perfect. So with that in mind, the South Beach diet is divided into three phases: the banishing your cravings; reintroducing carbohydrates; and a diet for life.

In the first phase of the South Beach diet entitled “Banishing Your Cravings” actually takes about two weeks. During this phase of the South Beach diet, you are only allowed to eat normal size helpings of meat, chicken, turkey, fish, and shellfish. Also in this phase of the South Beach diet, the dieter is encouraged to eat plenty of vegetables, eggs, cheese, and nuts. Aside from that, they can also include salads with real olive oil in the dressing. It is indeed important to note that in this phase of the South Beach diet, the dieter has three balanced meals per day, and this will help them to banish their cravings.

During the first phase of the South Beach diet, the dieter will be urged to have snacks in the mid-morning and mid-afternoon, whether they want it or not. Also there should be dessert after dinner. The dieter is encouraged to drink water, plus coffee or tea if he or she wishes.

During the second phase of the South Beach diet what was excluded during the first phase is now permitted in this second phase of the South Beach diet. With this in mind, the second phase of the diet South Beach is called “Reintroducing Carbs”. The dieters should remain in phase two to continue losing weight until their goal is reached. How long it takes depends largely on how much they need to lose.

And the third phase of the South Beach diet which is then termed “A Diet for Life” is actually the last phase that continues for the rest of the dieter’s life. When the dieter gets to this point of the South Beach diet, he or she will notice that the South Beach diet plan feels less like a diet and more like a way of life. You can in fact forget the South Beach diet as long as you remember to live by its few fundamental rules.

Find out more about the South Beach Diet and other popular diet programs at http://www.a1-comparediets.com You will find lots of useful diet and fitness tips and get in great shape.

Create Marketing Magic
Posted in Marketing Infos June 15th, 2008

When you think about marketing, chances are pretty good that cartoons and talking animals aren’t the first thing to pop into your mind. You’re probably processing numbers, identifying markets, and looking for ways to cut costs.

Maybe it’s time to get your nose off the grindstone and have a little fun. Why? Creativity plays an important role in marketing, and sometimes we need to take the time to get our creative juices flowing.

Don’t believe it? Take a close look at Disney. Now that’s a perfect sample of creativity and marketing going hand-in-hand! Walt Disney… a dreamer who put magic into his marketing.

Creativity can take on several different “personas”…

1. The Explorer
The explorer seeks out bits of interesting and new information like a sponge. Curiosity keeps him hunting for the unknown and ready to plunge into brand new experiences.

2. The Dreamer
A wild imagination is the best friend of a true dreamer. Nothing is impossible in the world of imagination.

3. The Artist
An artist is able to take a variety of bits and pieces, mix them all together and come up with a collage that entrances the mind.

Before you set this article aside and get back into the daily grind, let’s think of what all of this could mean to your marketing campaign.

Creativity may…

1. Add pizzas to your flyers
2. Spark a brand new idea for a product/service to market
3. Bring to light a brand new way to market your current product/service
4. Give color to your ads
5. Expose a new way to beat out the competition

Hey, any one of those are great boosters for a marketing campaign. The trouble is that sometimes we feel that everyone is creative, but we’re just an unimaginative lump of clay destined to plod through life.

Not so! Everyone has an imagination. Sometimes it just needs to be oiled up a little bit to get it loosened up. How long has it been since you put your imagination to work?

You can give your creativity a leg up by…

1. Watching a sunrise or sunset
2. Organizing a party
3. Smelling a flower

Hah! You thought I’d have some extravagant exercises all laid out for you, didn’t you? Relax, there’s no secret key to being successfully creative. Creativity comes in all sizes, shapes and colors. There’s no right or wrong way to be creative.

The biggest hurdle most people face is the “I’m just not creative” cop out. Sure they’re creative. In fact, if I asked, they could create quite a long list of the reasons they aren’t creative.

Research has shown that this biggest difference between “creative” and “non-creative” people is that “creative” people believe they are creative and “noncreative” people don’t believe they are creative. It’s as simple as that.

Every marketer gets stale after a while, if they don’t find refreshing and new ideas to incorporate into their work. If your marketing has lost its pizzazz or seem to be in the dumps, simply take a little time to stimulate your creativity and just see what happens.

10 Steps Towards A Stress-Free Introduction Into Management
Posted in Managing Life + Business June 15th, 2008

Becoming a manager for the first time can be an unnerving and sometimes stressful experience. In many cases, organisations expect you to immediately jump into the role and begin to perform as if you have been there for years. Also, you may have been promoted “out of the blue” and as such have not taken part in any “succession planning” that would have prepared you for the management role.

If you follow the ten steps outlined then you will put yourself in a much better position to develop into your management role than perhaps may have been the case.

Step 1 - Be yourself

It is important that you do not try to act like your predecessor. You will have your own style of management and it may be that the previous manager had a particular style that you were not comfortable with. You will have an idea of what the best management style is for any given situation but this will only come with time, perhaps through training and coaching. The best thing you can do is to look at yourself and decide what you want out of the management role and what you need to do in order to build your capabilities in that role.

Step 2 - Go easy to start with

Although there is always pressure on a new manager to take up where the last manager left off, don’t go rushing into things. Do not be the “new broom that sweeps clean” all previous procedures away. Ensure that you reassure your team that it will be “business as usual” at least until you get the opportunity to speak to each team member about what their fears and hopes are as regards you being their manager.

Step 3 - Talk to people, listen and gather information

It is vital that you talk to each member of your team. Sit down with them and “contract” with them. How do the two of you want to work together? What are their expectations of you as their manager? What are their hopes, fears and aspirations? What are their motivators and de-motivators? It is important that this is a two way process and you should be asking them the same questions so as there is mutual understanding. Also ask them what they think needs to be done to make the team or department more effective - seek their input right at the start.

Although it is important to talk to the team, it is also vital to talk and contract with those senior managers who will have a “stake” in your actions. They must be comfortable and if you “contract” with them as you would with your own team then you will have greater understanding of them as they will have of you.

Step 4 - Ensure you get coaching and mentoring from your own boss

Once you have established a working relationship with your own manager then ensure that within this “contract” he or she builds in time to coach and mentor you through, particularly the early day. As a new manager you should know exactly what is expected of you in terms of both your business objectives and your development objectives. You should have a development plan that highlights your strengths and development areas in respect to your new role and with the support of your manager you should start to implement that plan immediately. Your manager should have the coaching skills to ensure that you maintain your progress and deliver against your plan.

Step 5 - Know the Boundaries, Policies and Procedures

In many “new manager” situations teams, or individuals within teams, attempt to “change the rules” in relation to what needs to be done and how it is done. There will be company rules and procedures and these need to be adhered to, until at least the time they have been reviewed and any change negotiated and implemented. Don’t let you being the “new boy” be an excuse for teams or individuals to take liberties. Let people know where they stand; what they can do without asking; what they need to ask to do, and what they cannot do.

Step 6 - Be Available and Visible

Make sure you are available and visible. It is very easy to be “available” over the phone or through e-mail but you cannot beat a good “face to face” very so often. It is vital to your team’s development and progress that you make time to sit down with them and have regular face-to-face chats. As a manager you will be their coach and mentor and as such you should make time to coach them through their business objectives and challenges. Don’t hide behind “important meetings” as many managers are apt to do.

Step 7 - Avoid Favourites and ensure Consistency and Fairness

You may be now managing the team you were once part of. You will have had friends in that team and perhaps had some people you did not get on with. You now have to ensure that you do not let your personal preferences get in the way of you effectively managing that team and the individuals within the team. Avoid favouritism at all costs and ensure you treat everyone equally, fairly and consistently. The minute you take sides the team starts to disintegrate.

Step 8 - Keep communication high and as open as possible

It is important that you keep communication levels high, letting your people know what is happening whenever possible. Avoid being secretive where possible as people naturally jump to conclusions, usually the wrong ones! Make sure you praise when you see something good done. Praise is the most powerful form of feedback and unfortunately managers do not use enough of it! Consider starting a newsletter and although you instigate it and perhaps write the first couple of editions, let the team take over and start to delegate the tasks involved to the team.

Also, ensure that you ask for regular feedback from both your team and from your boss. How are getting on in relation to your new role? What do you still need to develop? What’s going well?

Step 9 - Be Pro-active and start to make your own decisions

Many first time managers continue to go to the “boss” to ask for permission to do things. This does not raise their profile with either senior management or with their own team. You are the boss! You can make your own decisions, so you must know what the boundaries are in relation to what you can do and what you can do. In your early contracting with your own manager ensure you know where you stand and then be pro-active about moving your business forward.

Step 10 - Encourage the team to work together

The outputs of a well-disciplined and effective team will always be greater than the individual outputs of the team members and to this end you have to encourage the team to work effectively together. You have also to get them to understand that you are learning the management game and that you will need their support as well. If you can get the unit working cohesively together they will support you through your early management days.

Bonus Step - Take time out to relax and reflect

In the attempts to get the job done, many new managers do not take time out to relax, wind down and then reflect on their progress. They go thrashing about from task to task never stopping to ask for feedback. This can be dangerous to their health and also to the wellbeing of the team as a whole. Make sure you take a break occasionally. Your coach and mentor will ensure that this happens - or will they?

Telephone Conferencing - Evolution in the Web
Posted in Uncategorized June 13th, 2008

The Need To Communicate

The need for businesses to communicate both internally and with each other has always been great. Successful transactions cannot be completed without communication - so much relies upon it; decent customer service; placing orders; winning new business.

As global markets have emerged with multinational organizations and twenty-four hour trading the need to find a reliable and cost effective method of communicating on a worldwide level has grown too. Logistical problems such as different time zones, busy schedules and a need to quite literally be in at least two places at once has commanded a software application that can tackle these difficulties.

First there was teleconferencing where two or more participants could engage in verbal communication over the telephone. Certainly an effective means of conversing but, as we all know, dealing with a person face to face is far more preferable. Body language conveys so much more than just a voice alone.

Trace it back, and you will find the roots of web conferencing in localized intranet systems. Document sharing and collaborative working was developed from this and the software for these systems was developed further still.

The development of the internet and its capabilities - greater bandwidth capacities, for example - made web conferencing a viable method of communication and developers forged ahead with refining their systems.

The expansion of the internet saw not only big players trading in the global markets but small and medium organizations also found themselves trading with partners across the globe. The need for effective methods of communication had to address the needs of all potential users, from multi-nationals to home-workers.

Web conferencing applications have now reached a sophisticated level. Going beyond the brief of providing a virtual meeting place, some applications now provide fully interactive capabilities, document and file sharing and the ability to communicate with not just one, but hundreds of participants at the same time.

Where Does The Future Lie?

Of course, refinement of web conferencing applications is ongoing. As a relatively new phenomenon, there is plenty scope for developers to enhance and improve their software packages. The needs of businesses are constantly changing and the shift in trend towards home rather than office-based employment will place a higher demand still for virtual meeting facilities.

It is hard to predict the future of web conferencing. There are so many avenues this exciting technology could explore. The popularity of mobile technology - cell phones, laptops and hand-held computers, for example - provide the software developers with new challenges. An increasingly mobile workforce demands software that will work for them rather than them having to work round the technology.

The web conferencing market place is become increasingly competitive and providers will have to stay ahead of the game in order to survive. As it increases in popularity as a means of communication, users will become more demanding in terms of the sophistication of the software they are using. With so many routes web conferencing technology can take it will be interesting to see the diverse range of software solutions on hand to solve the communication problems of the global business community of the future.

Dating Advice for Women: Give the Good Guys a Chance
Posted in Misc Stuff June 13th, 2008

Women often grumble about the inventory of single men saying, “There are no good men available.” Well new evidence is in and it’s quite the contrary. I spoke with eight single men in their 40’s who are members of a local dating service. What an eye opener! We spent an hour together discussing their surprising dating experiences. Hold onto your hats ladies because this is a shocker!

Who Are these Good Guys?

The group varied, but were all very datable. Highlights include: Career: teacher, electrician, IT consultant, insurance underwriter, mechanic. Looks: 5′7″ to over 6 feet; athletic to huggable; dark brown or salt and pepper hair to balding. Education: two masters degrees to trade school. Interests: cooking, biking, dancing, hiking, movies. Seems like a bunch of regular guys.

Men Do Want Honesty and Monogamy

Overall, the men expressed a sincere desire to find a loving relationship. Monogamy is a must and honesty is a primary concern. Most want a partner who is close in age (plus or minus 5 years.) Surprised? These men want exactly the same thing that most women want. So what’s the problem? Here’s what the guys had to say about dating:

Women Won’t Give Men a Chance

The number one biggest issue men have with women today is that the fairer sex just won’t give them a chance. More often than not, the ladies they select from the dating service either say no without as much as a phone conversation or don’t respond to the request at all. As a result, the men feel bewildered, baffled, and very frustrated by this high level of rejection and don’t understand why women paid good money for a service they don’t take full advantage of.

Men feel women’s unwillingness to connect is because they are simply too picky and looking for a level of perfection that’s unrealistic. The fellows worry that they’re too short, not fit enough, losing hair, don’t have a status job, the right education, or make enough money. Hmmm, could they be right?

Look Past Looks

What fascinated me most is that the men complain about the very same thing that women complain about men! Women whine that men select or reject them based on looks alone rather than taking the time to get to know them. The truth is that selecting a potential partner based solely on physical attraction represents a trap to which both sexes often succumb. This is why most matchmakers don’t use pictures with clients, insisting instead that they meet in person. Attraction is important to a good relationship, but is perfection necessary?

Missing the Boat on the Good Guys

All of this begs the question: What is the cost of turning men away based on superficial qualities? Seems like it might be pretty steep. Could be a lot of women are missing the boat on the “Good Guys” because they won’t even put a toe in the water to meet them. It’s certainly something to think about. Of course, you must find a man attractive, but how important should looks be and how much job status is required?

Expand Your Datable Criteria

When you think about the qualities you want in a partner, what comes first; fitness or a warm heart? A high-powered career or good communication skills? Education or honesty? In this day and age, when women are fiercely independent and self-sufficient, do you really need his financial status or emotional support and friendship? Expanding your datable criteria opens the door for so many more possibilities. Before you dismiss a man because of his physique, hairline, or job, try stretching yourself to discover what’s inside. Could he be worth a glass of wine, some light conversation, and 90 minutes of your time?

The bottom line on dating in the 21st century is there really are lots of good men available. If you’re looking for a loving partner, ease up on stringent standards and let a few more prospects pass inspection. Give the next guy who approaches you a chance. Say “Yes” to a man who may not be ideal, but could be a wonderful partner just the same. You have little to lose, but the upside could be finding the love you’ve been seeking all along.

How to be Healthier and Happier In Your Organisation
Posted in Managing Life + Business June 13th, 2008

Did you know your work environment can actually make you sick?

The affects of airconditioning

Research has shown that airconditioning can cause allergies, respiratory infections, asthma, fatigue and headaches. And that’s just a few things.

If you don’t believe me, have a look at what some of your workmates keep in their desk drawers.

You’ll find many of them keep enough pills and potions on hand to stock a pharmacy! In fact you could probably set up a special area in your organisation just for this.

What about computers?

Then we’ve got the excessive use of computers, where you have to sit down and stare at the screen for extended periods of time. This alone can cause postural problems ie. sore back, neck and wrists and of course eyestrain.

Are you an excessive laptop user?

The laptop is a particular area of concern as many people tend to use it as their main pc.

“John”, a management consultant had recently spent six weeks off work as a direct result of his regular use on the laptop.

He would use it for hours at a time. Being constantly hunched over it to type as well as having a poorly designed chair all contributed to John’s situation. He was also overweight and didn’t do any regular exercise. His back could not cope. John estimated he had lost $50,000 worth of business! If he had been aware of this, he could have spoken with the organisation he was contracted to and looked at other options.

Don’t forget the support staff

The admin/support staff are often the last people in an organisation who are given the right tools and environment to work in.

Often the senior executives or managers are able to invest in any item known to mankind and the poor old admin people who are in the office all day long have to settle for a crappy old chair or sit in an area which is poorly lit and has a lovely view of the wall. How productive would anyone be in this situation?

Does your office look good?

Pay attention to the office decor. Does it look old and drab or modern and alive? Is it clean and uncluttered or does it look like a volcano has erupted? Not only will this affect your performance but also on how others see you and your department. ie. A clean, modern environment portrays an organised and “with it” organisation.

Summary

Provide your team with a positive environment to work in and you will experience less absenteeism, improved moral and increased productivity. Look after your people and they will be more inclined to think twice about leaving your organisation.

Be A Meal Freak = Flat Abs & Sexy Muscles!
Posted in Great Health Tips June 12th, 2008

Psst . . . listen up! Want flat abs and some sexy muscles? Then you have to consider becoming a Meal Freak.

Meal Freaks obtain leanness and tone from muscle, they’re fairly conscious of how often they ingest nutrients to build muscle and burn fat. Fasting, or going too long without food, forces the body to store fat. Your body thinks it is starving and hangs on to body fat for survival in preparation of the fast. This is our built in computer that allowed us to survive the elements as cavemen.

Meal Freaks know that it is important to consume a small balanced meal every two to three hours. Digesting food requires energy which generates internal heat and therefore stimulates your bodies’ metabolism. The nutrients are constantly supplying your muscles with amino acids from protein for building, and glycogen from carbohydrates for energy. The added benefit is a steady blood sugar level that burns fat.

Overeating produces high insulin levels which create low blood sugar that in turn forces the body to store fat. This makes you weak, irritable, sleepy and overweight. Ever notice how you just want to snooze after your plate of pasta for lunch or that enormous holiday dinner? Overeating stretches the stomach, which means that your tummy is not going to be flat, not to mention that youll want to eat more food.

The most important meal of the day? B-R-E-A-K-F-A-S-T! With 7-8 hours of sleep behind you, you then break a “fast” when you eat breakfast. Remember, fasting slows the metabolism. Instead of taking some fat burner magic pill, eat breakfast as the better alternative. Try a small bowl of oatmeal and some egg whites, protein shake or low fat/sugar smoothie.

With breakfast out of the way, you can concentrate on the other 5-6 meals for the day, of which 2-3 of these need to be consumed with solid food that consist of a protein source, a vegetable and a carbohydrate in small portions. You can insert a mid day and bedtime snack of easily digested foods like cottage cheese, fruit or vegetables. Use meal replacement shakes occasionally yet remember this: the body leans itself better when a whole food protein is used versus a manufactured protein that is found in your protein shakes. Just make sure the shakes have a good quality protein source, like whey or egg protein and some carbohydrates for steady blood sugar and energy. Watch your labels for excessive fat and sugar content.

Some of you are saying, “I can’t possibly eat all of that in one day!” Most of you are getting more calories and food from your lunch and dinner alone. Once you have started stoking the fat burning machine, youll start to feel hungry every two to three hours. It takes being a clock watcher and a little planning at first but soon your body will start to take on a leaner appearance and you’ll be looking forward to your next meal or snack.

Eating more meals allows you to ingest a greater variety of foods, which will lead to better health and longetivity. When we eat the same foods over and over we can develop allergies or sensitivities to these foods. When this happens the immune system is compromised and the body doesn’t fight off infections. It also makes fat burning difficult.

Know your downfalls and plan your meals so that you don’t fall victim to hunger. This is the biggest advantage of to eating more often. Let yourself get hungry and all your efforts go right out the window. Plan your mini meals and snacks the night before or the next morning. Be prepared and once this is done often enough it will become a healthy habit.

Tactile Pressure Sensors for Future Robotics
Posted in Tech + Life June 11th, 2008

Scientists and Robotic Researchers are attempting to design human type personal assistance robots. As they work to develop algorithms, which most resemble the thought processes of the human brain others are attempting to make them more life like thru human behavioral techniques of mirroring and facial features. Soon robots will be very much like humans, on the outside that is. Robotic humanoid devices will assist us in many of our needs. Imagine a robotic companion, it might take a walk in the park with you, go jogging or even spot for you lifting weights at the gym. As we get older and cannot do certain things for ourselves our robotic companions will be by our side as caregivers, helping with our life transitions.

The robots will be built very strong with special materials, which will not easily decay. Their strength will be that of the Bionic Man or Woman able to life heavy objects or re-arrange furniture while you command different ideas. “Move the couch over there, no, no, no good; how about over there, hmm, no what about here?” The robot does not care and will be happy to oblige without back talk, well unless it is programmed too? When interacting with humans, robots will have to be cognizant not to over power you or break your bones. Imagine have over dinner guests and the robot assistant is pouring wine, but squeezes too hard and breaks the bottle or tries to shake hands with your guests and breaks their arms?

Well scientists are way ahead of us on this dilemma, in fact they have it all figured out already:

In fact your robotic assistant with additional programming might be able to go to work for you? Perhaps you are a doctor, well then send in the robot which has sure and steady hands, better than yours, never gets fatigued and can do a surgery for 14 hours straight without error or stress? Tactile Glove Systems (TGS) have been researched for years and now are almost as sensitive as a human hand. You will not have to worry about our silicon chip friends; they will be fine; think on this, the future is nearly upon us.
