Kill Your Speed, Car Insurance Customers Warned
Posted in Online Insurance July 14th, 2009

Drivers have been urged to reduce their speeds in order to lower the risk of accidents, which may subsequently result in a drop in the need to make car insurance claims. A new Think! campaign, which aims to highlight how lives can be damaged by incidents caused by high speeds, has been launched by the Department for Transport. Road safety Minister Jim Fitzpatrick explained the scheme - called Kill Your Speed, Or Live With It - draws attention to the consequences facing motorists who have caused accidents. He asked: “What is life like for the driver who kills because they are in a rush to get home and how does that split-second decision affect the rest of their life?” Mr Fitzpatrick added the last Think! speeding campaign focused on statistics which show a child has an 80 per cent chance of survival if they are hit at 30 mph, but at 40 mph there is an 80 per cent chance they will die. Think! also emphasises the dangers of mobile phones when used by drivers.According to the Crewe and Nantwich Guardian, six cars have overturned in road accidents during the last two weeks, which has led to the police warning.Speaking to the newspaper, Tony Hall, police traffic management officer, said: “You need to adjust your speed to the type of road and to whatever conditions exist at the time.”He also urged motorists to wear their seatbelts for safety in case this kind of collision occurs.”Preventing this type of collision is the best policy of all, but if you wear a seatbelt at least you stand a reasonable chance of walking away if it does happen to you,” he added.
