Protect Your Loved Ones with Fire Suppression
Posted in Business World, Online Security Resources December 11th, 2009

Fire in a home or office can be damaging if safety precautions are not well planned and fulfilled. Aside from a fire alarm system, it is likewise requisite that escape paths are made. This should admit a “walk-through” synonymous to “fire exercises” as learned in schools. More significantly, children should know where to run in a fire emergency.

Most homeowners install fume sensors at various points in the home. By detecting advanced degrees of fume, fume sensors furnish a degree of protection. Still, when a fire begins at a very low degree without much fume, as in an electrical fire, it may require some time before enough fume accumulates at a level where it can activate the fume detector. In this instance, precious time may be lost and this is where a fire warning signal can be the first line of safety.

FM200 in offices is fundamental to securing all building occupants. Frequently, occupants may be in an area of the building where it’s challenging to hear alarms. With a fire alarm and a accomplished plan of exit, injury or death is significantly minimized. In the home, a fire alarm with a heat sensor will notice strange points of heat that would be believed exaggerated in conventional home environments. In addition, a fire alarm can be fitted to sound on the outside of a house so that supplemental aid is promptly accessible from neighbors. This is a sound way to protect other homes in the neighborhood. Aside from preserving the lives of occupants, fire alarms can also prevent a home from being completely ruined.

Little maintenance is required for fire suppression equipments that have heat detectors. These heat detectors are triggered when the heat level of a certain room is beyond the specifications. When a house has different degrees, fire alarms should be installed in stations far from furnaces, cooking stoves, fireplaces and ovens to keep the heat detectors from being needlessly activated.

Adding fire suppression equipments to your home signifies contributing value to it as well. They bring peace of mind to the occupants particularly for families with small kids or the aged.

Outsourced Junk Message Filtering Means no Maintenance Worries

Outsourcing your mail server and junk mail protection to a hosted solution reveals several gains

The amount of spam continues to go up and this means that a large share of an organisation’s capital resources and bandwidth are “stolen” from them. Outsourcing their e-mail to a hosted service will help them get their resources back and re-spend them on productivity.

Internet is a core resource and a vital daily part of both business and private acitivities, however, if it suddenly consists of a lot of ilegitimate email-s and junk, then its becomes irritating and frustrating to both the IT department, the users and in the end the entire company.

Web spreads out widely and is now available for everybody in all age groups, which has a huge impact on the amount of spam mails and following that, an increased cost using time and resources to clear junk and ilegitimate mail from the mail boxes. It is very common to underestimate the cost of getting rid of spam - the reason is that is just takes a couple of seconds to remove one single spam e-mail. But when spam mails suddenly appear in hundres or thousands on a daily basis it becomes a serious problem - consuming time and users’ focus.

Unwanted e-mails do not just play the role of being annoying, they have a major side effect on the performance of an entire organisation ocuupying network and abusing bandwidth. Every unsolicited message delivered uses bandwidth and in some cases spam account for nearly 50% of the entire network.

A slow and ineffective network hits all businesses - from the large companies the have their own dedicated team taking care of IT securiry to small businesses, that has a smaller budget for online protection. Furthermore, governments at all levels - local and regional - have tried to implement legislation aimed at spammers, unfortunately this has not helped fight spam sufficiently as spammers are able to continue their criminal activities using the latest and most advanced technologies.

Spammer have set up their underground base with access to widespread networks of mail servers combined with advanced and custom technology. A number of studies have shown that spam are draining financial resources and posting security threats to organizations by exposing their networks to malware, spyware and other malicious codes.

These severe security issues calls for effective outsourced spam message solutions for mail servers in order to be able to prevent the security threat and reduce operation costs. Organisations can especially protect themselves better against online security issues using outsourced hosted servers and services.

One strong feature of employing outsourced hosted server is time saving as companies do not need to be worry about hardware/software integration and maintenance of installed equipments. Trained and experienced personnel keep and eye on their systems 24/7 and ensure removal of all spam before it is passed to the company’s internal network and the end users.

The responsibility removing all spam before it reaches the end users is now placed at the outsourced hosted mail server, and understanding the entire process is now much easier for less technical users.

My Shiny New Home Alarm Systems

I have been shopping for a home alarm systems for 2 weeks now and I finally stumbled into a security system that seems to fit my hut, my wife and kids and our lives.

We researched a bunch of different alarm companies to find the lowest cost selection versus the costliest selection. I must say, that I was sad with most of the websites we faced at but one stood out above all the others and that was FamilyHomeSecurity.com. Their monitoring data was special, eye opening and edifying. I wish they were a company that installed security systems themselves because I know it would be done smartly and with much of care to detail.

What made it a loose experience? Well, we saw a housebreakings three years ago that wasn’t very fun. Fortuitously, we were out of town and they solely got jewellery and coins. Now there are tiddlers in the house and a mass more invaluable stuff like computing machines, electronics, and above all - family and family memories and photos. We simply desired to find the optimal home alarm system that we could all use and feel healthy with. It was by all odds time to receive one this month.

So, how did I discover the proper home alarm system? We got going by seeking ‘home security systems’ on the search engines, then surfed all over thorough of the sites on the starting page. A plenty of them were scrap…and I was sorry about that. Everybody I love says Google is the strongest…anyway, after looking all over those internet sites we couldn’t get what we were searching for. We didn’t need a bad sales process and we didn’t want to remember much about it. Almost all of these websites were pesky sales pitches - I wanted data!

Most of the corporations we saw were Brinks, ADT, GE and Pinnacle. Most of them seem to utilize similar home alarm systems…and we at last chose with a Pinnacle Security system after learning from the good selective information heard at homesecurityguru and www.FamilyHomeSecurity.com.

It’s good to see wonderful enlightening sites out there on the matter of security systems.

Good luck looking for a great system!

Firewalls Hardware vs. Software for Home Users
Posted in Online Security Resources April 8th, 2008

We should all understand the need for a firewall for our home network. Firewalls help protect our computers from viruses, worms, Trojans, & hackers. What we may not think about is the difference between hardware firewalls and software firewalls. Here are some examples of software firewalls: Windows XP firewall, Zone Alarm, Norton Internet Security, Kerio Firewall, Check Point, and there are many others. Now here are some examples of (consumer grade) hardware firewalls: Linksys, D-link, Netgear, Iogear, Sonicwall, Netscreen, and many others. The cost of a home firewall can vary but the estimated cost are anywhere from $30 - $150 USD for ether a hardware or software firewall. So lets now take a closer look at the differences between the too.

Software Firewalls

The idea behind a software firewall is to protect your computer from harm by checking incoming and outgoing traffic for known Malware. Normally you have a training process to setup the software firewall by “burning it in”. The software firewall will alert you to all kinds of traffic you may or may not know that is coming and going from your computer to the internet. It will probably ask you if you want to let this traffic though. Once you get past the training phase you are setup and ready to surf. Some of the user advantages for a software firewall are how easy setup is and updates are similar to antivirus software. Also a lot of software firewalls are built into antivirus programs so you night already have one running now. Some of the down sides to this kind of firewall are that the software vendors may not tell you about vulnerabilities and there are always going to be chances that without updates your computer can still be at risk. Just keep in mind that you should treat your software firewall the same as your antivirus products and keep it updated.

Hardware Firewalls

Hardware firewalls are normally safer because they are separate devices than your computer and any dangerous traffic get stopped before it hits your computer. Also if for some reason your network gets attacked your firewall takes the burden of the attack and not you’re PC. Other pro’s to the hardware firewall is that you can use it to protect all the computers on your network and this can save money from not having to load the software on all your computers. Hardware firewalls are also normally better because they are made to just protect your network and only serve this proposes unlike software firewalls that are just programs to run on your computer and can be disabled from other software and Malware.

Final Review

Let’s now go over what we have covered and discussed in this article. Software firewalls are great and can help protect your PC. Keep in mind software firewalls are only as good as there last update. Hardware firewalls provide awesome protection and can as protect the whole network. The best thing to do is use both hardware & Software firewalls if you can. We recommend using the hardware firewall to protect the network and also using the software firewall to protect the PCs. Keep in mind that most of your antivirus software comes with some kind of software firewall protection and Windows XP (Home & Pro) has a software firewall option. There are also free software firewalls you can download from the internet. No matter how you chose to protect your network just use some kind of firewall and always use antivirus software.
